A lot happened this week. Amazon has held his second annual Prime Day, and there are still many gadgets for sale. Microsoft held its big Surface event this week, unveiling its next-generation computers (more on that below). Kodak apparently can’t keep up with demand for film.

KEF Mu7
KEF has announced Mu7, the first pair of wireless headphones with active noise cancellation. At $400, they’re designed and priced to compete with other flagship noise-cancelling headphones like the Sony WH-1000XM5. Mu7 sports custom 40mm drivers and aptX HD support for high-end sound. Thanks to a partnership with Ross Lovegrove, who KEF has helped design a number of super expensive loudspeakers, they have their own industrial design (aluminum). Available in two shades of his gray: silver or charcoal.

Beyerdynamic Zelent
Beyerdynamic has announced the second generation model of the Xelento Remote (drawn, $999) and Xelento Wireless ($1,199) are wired and wireless (neckband-style) in-ear headphones, respectively. And they aren’t cheap. Both models ship with the same 11mm dynamic drivers, gold-plated connectors and silver-plated cables. Xelento Wireless supports Bluetooth 5.2 and promises 14 hours of playtime.

The Surface Laptop 5 is a fairly modest update to its predecessor, the Surface Laptop 5. This is because Microsoft has provided newer Intel processors (although there is no AMD chip option as before). It also has a USB-C port that supports Thunderbolt 4. You can order it in 13.5 inch or 15 inch models. It will be released on October 25th.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9
Surface Pro 9 is Microsoft’s latest 2-in-1 tablet. It’s very similar to the Surface Pro 8, but it has a new Intel (12th Gen) or ARM chipset and is available in a colored aluminum finish. I used to have a Surface Pro 8, and I could deck it out with a colorful keyboard and other accessories. It has the same 13-inch display as the previous model. It will be released on October 25th.

Acer claims its Swift Edge is the world’s lightest 16-inch OLED laptop. It weighs 2.58 pounds, which is actually lighter than Apple’s latest 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, which weighs 2.73 pounds. The most notable thing under the hood is that the Swift Edge is powered by a new AMD Ryzen processor. This is supposed to be more energy efficient than Intel’s latest processors, and that efficiency would be required to power such a large, bright OLED display.

Roku smart home
Roku has unveiled its own ecosystem of smart home devices that compete with the likes of Google Home, Amazon’s Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Called the Roku Smart Home, it consists of indoor and outdoor security cameras, video doorbells, smart lights, and smart plugs. All of these devices work with Roku Voice, Roku’s voice assistant, and are compatible with Roku’s new Smart Home app. It’s also compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, so buying Roku’s ecosystem doesn’t lock you in completely.
