Game 1 of the 2022 World Series was filled with excitement from start to finish, as the Philadelphia Phillies came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Houston Astros 6-5 in extra innings.
The Phillies’ win marked the biggest comeback by a National League team in a World Series game since 1956.

Houston strikes first
The first leg of the 2022 World Series went to the Astros. Kyle Tucker took Aaron Nola meter on a solo right shot to make it 1-0.

Hit, run and score
Martin Maldonado and the Astros executed the hit-and-run to perfection. As Chas McCormick took off for second, Maldonado hit the ball where the second baseman would have been. The hit scored Yuli Gurriel to give Houston a 2-0 lead.
At Peña to go out
Jeremy Pena fought off a 1-2 count before taking Nola’s lead in the opposite direction for a brace in the third set.
Two for Tucker
Kyle Tucker made a strong, early record to win World Series MVP with his three-run homer in the third. It was Tucker’s second home run of the night, giving the Astros a 5-0 lead.
Digging a track
The Phillies scored their first inning of the series when Nick Castellanos somehow made contact with Verlander’s slider down and away.

Alec Bohm scored two more runs and cut the Astros’ lead, making it 5-3 in the fourth inning.

Peña looked like he won the game for the Astros. But Castellanos slipped to make the hook and prevent Altuve from scoring.

Realmuto took over in the top of the 10th and drilled a solo home run to the deep right, giving the Phillies a 6-5 lead.
Ball game
After a pair of Astros players get into base and scoring position, David Robertson fell in a 3-0 hole against Aledmys Diaz. However, Robertson bounced back and eventually forced Diaz out to end the game and give the Phillies a 1-0 series lead.
