The number of restaurants is growing rapidly, and more and more people are eating in restaurants. Food is a restaurant’s main draw, but the latest trends and consumer behavior suggest that a restaurant’s interior design and appearance are important to attracting gourmands.

“When I choose a restaurant, I first look at whether the restaurant is attractive and then look for the food. If both are perfect, it is a win-win relationship for someone like me who likes to eat delicious food. “It’s a good environment,” said Faria Rahman Rattry, a third-year pharmacy student at BRAC University. In her opinion, the food and the good environment of the restaurant complement each other.
Md. Sive Saqline, a CSE third year student at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, agrees with Rattry. “I’m very drawn to the restaurant atmosphere,” he told the writer.
“There are now a lot of nicely decorated restaurants. When choosing eateries, simple or undecorated restaurants are on my lowest priority list. They serve good food.”
Some come to restaurants for some peace of mind, to spend quality time with friends, partners, family, with a book and a cup of coffee, or just to be alone.
Photos over taste
“I’m most attracted to restaurants with unique décor. I like to take pictures in decorated corners of restaurants, which makes them unique and eye-catching,” says Saqline.
Taking good pictures in a restaurant satisfies his soul. This is the age of social media. People dress up, check out different restaurants, click good photos, and eat at fancy restaurants. Then share it on social media platforms.
In order to take a good photo, not only the appearance but also the atmosphere and decoration of the restaurant must be beautiful. Even the quality of the food doesn’t matter so much if the foodie is happy with the vivid pictures.
Some people dress up to match the atmosphere of the restaurant. For example, if the restaurant is decorated with Bengali ambiance and beautiful surroundings, a lady chooses shari and salwar her kameez. If you think of shops with classical patterns and a Western-style atmosphere, Western clothing is the place to go.
You can also see the color coordination with the restaurant. Whether your restaurant has rooftop, outdoor or indoor seating, things like the lighting in your restaurant play a big role in getting your customers’ attention.

Applicant Maisha Tasnim says she and her friends always prefer restaurants that are beautifully and aesthetically decorated without worrying too much about taste.
“Food can be an excuse to sit there. We go to restaurants just to have a good time together in a cozy environment. Sometimes we go to restaurants with bad food reviews. Click on the picture and usually have a formal drink and eat somewhere else,” she said.
“A restaurant with a vibrant environment, a bright atmosphere and a special corner for clicking pictures is our priority. I choose a cafe,” added Maisha.
Restaurant and cafe owners are also aware of this consumer behavior pattern. Therefore, they try to decorate the restaurant with a creative and vibrant interior design. Older restaurants are also joining the trend, while new restaurants emerge with décor that will soon become the talk of the town.
Having a rooftop, outdoor, kids zone and parking lot as well as interior is an advantage for restaurants and cafes.
Despite the high food prices in most of the elaborately decorated restaurants, people visit those restaurants anyway.
