BRADLEY, IL (WAND) — Another person has been arrested in connection with the shooting of two Bradley police officers in December.
Jaron M. Shannon, 23, of Kankakee, was arrested by Illinois State Police on Oct. 27, according to ISP. The counts included his ten counts for illegal sale of firearms, illegal purchase of firearms, and failure to maintain records of firearm sales.
On December 29, 2021, at approximately 9:40 PM, two Bradley officers responded to a report of a dog barking inside a car parked unattended at the Comfort Inn. Officer Tyler J. Bailey survived, but Sergeant Marlene Littmanich died of his injuries in a local hospital.
ISP agents conducted a search for firearms used in crimes. Jaron M. Shannon turned out to be the original purchaser of the firearm. Shannon was taken into custody and appeared in court on October 28.
“Today we accused Jaron Shannon of being a ‘straw purchaser’ of two or more firearms and illegally transferring over ten firearms. I am well aware of the consequences of crossing. In fact, many of the firearms purchased by Jaron Shannon are used in the commission of crimes, including underage criminals. One of his firearms is said to have been used in the murder of Police Sergeant Bradley. Attempted murder of Marlene Littmanick and Bradley Police Officer Tyler Bailey. Thanks to the Illinois State Police for continuing to track down all clues and all perpetrators related to these tragic events.Shannon is currently indicted in connection with that crime. He is the eighth defendant. In order to continue the pursuit of justice for Marlene and Tyler, we ask that anyone with information related to the illegal possession or sale of firearms contact local law enforcement before tragedy strikes again.
Darius Sullivan and Zandria Harris were charged with first-degree murder earlier this year.
