PARIS — The Balenciaga fashion house has reportedly cut ties with rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.
The move comes after several offensive comments from Ye, including anti-Semitic posts that had him suspended from Twitter and Instagram.
“Balenciaga is no longer associated with this artist and has no plans for future projects.
The company did not respond to multiple emails and phone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment, and a representative for Ye did not respond to requests for comment.
Ye worked with Balenciaga and its artistic director, Demna Gvasalia, on several fronts. The label also has an active relationship with Ye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian, who appeared in her ad campaign and acknowledged that her ex-husband introduced her to the brand. I’m here.
Ye was recently blocked from posting on Twitter and Instagram for anti-Semitic posts that he claimed the social network violated its policies. He also suggested that slavery was an option and called the COVID-19 vaccine “the mark of the beast.”
After being banned from social media platforms, he was offered the acquisition of right-wing friendly social network Parler.
During Paris Fashion Week, the rapper modeled at Balenciaga’s ready-to-wear show. The designer at the time, Gvasalia, called it an “iconic moment.” He was then seen in the Givenchy collection wearing Balenciaga his branded black dental braces.
