For eight years, the Flatirons Food Film Festival has brought hungry locals together with films and snacks aimed at educating about the world’s food systems and encouraging them to think deeply about where their food comes from. fascinated the
When the festival returns in person this Thursday for the first time since 2019, it will be something of a curtain call.
“Having a festival every year is exhausting. “You could do a small event that doesn’t require much and appreciate the food system and talk about it, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be that ambitious.”
The Flatirons Food Film Festival debuted in 2013, screening seven films over five days and including interactive elements such as wine tasting. Each year thereafter, the offering expanded to include multiple film and event combinations, such as beer films and guided tastings with certified cicerones, or panel and prepared food screenings.
Joun said the festival has hosted more than 120 individual events over the years.
The 2022 production at Boulder Public Library’s Canyon Theater will feature Truffle Hunters, a documentary about an Italian family who hunts for and harvests coveted truffle mushrooms, followed by Boulder restaurants, Audrey Jane’s Pizza Garage and Busta. , Big Red F Group and Jax Fish House.
Additionally, a truffle expert from the James Beard Award-winning restaurant Frasca Food and Wine will moderate a discussion about ingredients considered delicacies in all cuisines. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from Eventbrite.
After the final Flatirons Food Film Festival, Joun plans to return to a full-time technical writing career for a software company. She may be planning smaller side events in the future, but for now she’s full of gratitude.
“It was a great run. A lot of people appreciated it and really enjoyed it. It was totally worth it,” she said.
The Flatirons Food Film Festival will be held on October 20th from 7:00pm to 9:30pm at 1001 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder, at the Canyon Theater on Level 2 of the Boulder Public Library. For more information, visit flatrionsfoodfilmfest.org.
