st. LOUIS, Missouri (KMOV) – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after a series of car break-ins at City Foundry STL and Armory STL over the weekend. New entertainment venues have been targeted by thieves multiple times in recent weeks.
Danny, who asked not to use his last name, was one of the victims. He went to the armory to meet his friends and came out an hour later to find a broken window and an expensive vintage leather bag.
“I know this happens, but if you’re an hour away, you wouldn’t expect a car to be hit, and your stuff would be stolen in no time,” he said.
The Armory STL team has issued this statement.
“Customer safety is our number one priority. We have installed metal detectors at all entrances, 24/7 video surveillance of all parking lots, added parking lot lighting and fencing, and We have incorporated numerous safety measures, including armed police patrols in our parking lot.We have been overwhelmed with support and visits since opening and are committed to keeping our armory safe and inviting. .”
Thieves smashed windows and stole items from a car parked at the Foundry on Saturday night. While officers investigated, they heard multiple gunshots and saw a white Honda Accord drive away. According to police, a Honda passenger leaned out of the roof and began firing several shots from his rifle at the officer and three boys at the scene.
No one was injured and the vehicle was last seen driving south through Wandefenter.
This crime can scare customers away before the two businesses are firmly established. But Cassie Cantrell, who lives in Illinois, said it wouldn’t deter her from visiting the foundry in the future.
“We have to live our lives, hope that nothing bad happens, take care, and act wisely. No, just because something bad happens, “I’m not going to stop eating somewhere else,” she said.
Will Smith of City Foundry STL issued this statement.
“As city residents and business owners, we were disappointed to hear of the spate of break-ins and other incidents at city entertainment venues, including City Foundry STL, last weekend. City Foundry STL Guest and Tenant Safety And security is our number one priority.Since Saturday night, we have been in touch with city leaders, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and security companies to evaluate our security protocols. City Foundry STL was to become a gathering place for our community. While this was an isolated incident, we are working with local police and security companies to ensure the best security practices for our visitors and guests. We will implement it.”
