McCoupin County, (Wand) – A 33-year-old woman was arrested after police found the body of a 3-year-old infant.
A report of an underage child in distress was made at the Litchfield Fire Station on Thursday, according to a posting from the McCoupin County Sheriff’s Office. The initial investigation was handled by Litchfield Police.
Multiple search warrants were issued with the assistance of the Montgomery County State Attorney’s Office, and detectives from the McPin County Sheriff’s Office and Litchfield Police Department conducted interviews at the McPin County Sheriff’s Office.
Ashley N. Votoms, 33, of Carlinville, was charged with manslaughter, endangering the life of a child, and class 2 and class 3 felonies respectively. Her security deposit was set at her $250,000.
Macoupin County State Attorney Garrison issued a statement.
“Crimes against children are by their nature some of the worst crimes, and perpetrators destroy families by their actions. According to indictment documents released by the Macoupin County State’s Attorney’s Office, Bottoms had torn up a fight between two minors, causing a cerebral hemorrhage when the 3-year-old boy’s head hit a ledge, and driving the minor into a car. He claims to have demanded more on board. He less than three hours before the child died from a head injury.
