Update (4:15 PM): According to US Customs and Border Protection, the incidents along the Rio Grande began around 12:20 pm on Monday. Officials say Venezuelan citizens protesting along the Rio Grande River near downtown El Paso illegally tried to enter the United States.
According to CBP, one of the protesters attacked an agent with a flagpole.
Agents responded with crowd control measures that included the use of an authorized “low-lethal PepperBall launch system,” according to CBP officials.
Officials say the situation is ongoing.
EL PASO, Texas — A confrontation between a group of immigrants and U.S. Border Patrol agents was caught on camera Monday — showing the agents pushing the group back after advancing toward them.
A video shot by Omar Ornelas shows some of the group waving large flags. One is the Venezuelan flag and the other is the Honduran flag.
US Customs and Border Protection officials said they would issue a statement on the incident.
