- Christine Brown said on “Sister Wives” that her ex Kody “don’t even know” their kids.
- She said she fell in love with her “great” side, being “sad” that her children didn’t know.
- “Look, I have 18 kids, I’m spread out,” Kody said, reflecting on his relationships.
Ysabel Brown left for college in North Carolina on Sunday episode of “Sister Wives”, and this step caused his mother Christine to reflect on Kody’s relationship (or lack thereof) with their children.
“The hardest part of my whole life is that my kids don’t have a good relationship with their dad — he doesn’t even know them,” Christine said in a solo interview about the episode, which was interspersed with scenes of Kody helping Christine, Ysabel and Truely Brown finish packing a car for their North Carolina road trip. Kody did not join his ex and their two daughters for the trip.
Christine was the third of Kody’s four wives in a polygamous family until they separated in 2021 after more than 25 years of “spiritual” marriage. They have six children together: Aspyn, 27, Mykelti, 26, Paedon, 24, Gwendlyn, 21, Ysabel, 19 and Truely, 12.

“Sister Wives” has explored Kody’s strained relationship with Ysabel for a few seasons now. The tension between them first became evident in season 16, filmed in 2020, when Kody opted out of accompanying Christine to Ysabel’s surgery to correct his scoliosiswhich must have happened on the east coast, due to travel health and safety concerns in the middle the COVID-19 pandemic.
Christine told People in August that Kody’s decision not to be with Ysabel for such a big event was the “awakening” it made her realize that she had to leave Kody and that she could live only one life.
Ysabella questioned his father’s priorities on previous episodes of “Sister Wives,” but on Sunday’s episode, seemed to accept that he wasn’t coming on the trip to help her settle in North Carolina.
“My dad is not coming with us,” she said in a solo confessional interview. “He has kids here in Flagstaff, so it’s not like he can be away that long. Also, there’s still COVID around, unfortunately.”
But Kody, who attended a friend’s wedding on a previous episode of “Sister Wives” this season, said he just didn’t want to travel with Christine. He said he had agreed to her leaving the marriage, “but I’m not going to take a trip with her.”
Christine and Kody were devastated talking about their daughter Truely’s hospitalization.

Reflecting on how her kids don’t have a good relationship with Kody in her solo interview, Christine said: “You know what’s sad as well is they don’t know how much he is either. is amazing,” she said. “Kody has this awesome side that my kids don’t know.”
She said she fell in love with this man at some point. “Of course he’s not that person anymore and neither am I,” she added, noting that it made her “sad.”
“Listen, I have 18 children, I’m scattered,” Kody said in a solo interview, likely after being asked by a producer to reflect on his relationship with his and Christine’s kids. “I work hard to visit my kids, to connect with them, to do something they love. It’s not always an easy connection.”
“Sister Wives” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
