Center hosts women’s health celebration
Advocates gathered at the LSU Women’s Center on October 16 to celebrate the establishment of the new Office of Women’s Health.government John Bell Edwards On June 18, we signed Senate Bill 116, now ACT 676, and established an office within the Louisiana Department of Health.
Tonya JoynerThe Deputy Secretary of Health for the Louisiana Department of Health delivered a remarks followed by a video presentation to mark the 10-year journey that led to the establishment of the Office of Women’s Health. Argaret Wetherspoon Collins, She has been vocal about the state’s maternal and infant mortality rates after losing her daughter and grandson.
Women’s health advocates participated in a panel discussion on “Where Do We Go From Here?” Now that the Office on Women’s Health is being created. The panel stressed the importance of community and civic engagement, and held policymakers accountable for achieving the Office’s objectives and ensuring improved health for women in Louisiana.

Geeta Dave receives Crespo Fellowship
Geeta Dave was officially awarded the Michael Crespo Visual Artist Fellowship at a gathering held at the Cary Sourage Community Arts Center on October 18. The Arts of Greater Baton Rouge was created by his Council and funded by Cary Solarge to commemorate the internationally recognized life, work and dedication of the deceased. A painter and professor at LSU, this $5,000 fellowship of him has established a personal and professional life in Baton Rouge as a long-time contributing member of his community. It is intended to recognize
Dave’s work “Power of Intuition” was selected as this year’s winner. Catherine and Laurie Solarge, oversees fellowships. Dave was out of the country when he was first announced as the 2021 winner at the ACGBR Annual Meeting.
A recipient of the 1995 ACGBR Art Ambassador Award, Dave is the daughter of one of India’s most celebrated artists. Balwant Joshiand a respected arts educator teaching at Glasgow Middle School.
