Damon Lindeloff working on a star wars movie and now it has a director. Deadline reports that Lindelof, best known for his work on Lost, the remains and watchmenco-wrote a script which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel.
Lindelof has been a longtime Star Wars fan, and earlier this week rumors began circulating that he was co-writing a film for the franchise. Now, trade reports thateven if the film is still being written, Obaid-Chinoy was hired early on so she could have a say in the development.
It’s unclear what the film will be about or when it might be released, but it’s not in the immediate future. io9 sources had heard that Taika Waititi’s film, whatever it iswas likely to be Next, but the deadline says “this star wars The feature seems to have the most momentum of all the films currently in development at the studio. Who, yes, that means Lucasfilm is developing several projects for the big screen but doesn’t want to rush, especially with the franchise finding new life on Disney+.
Disney’s release schedule doesn’t feature a Star Wars movie until 2025. This seems far but wwith shows like The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Andor and more to come in the next two years, it makes sense. The Date gives the company time to let the projects develop and then, eventually, to decide what will be the next in theaters. Patty Jenkins’ Thieves Squadron was supposed to be the first movie post The Rise of Skywalkerbut it was officially removed from the calendar earlier this year.
This news is most surprising because, in the past, Lindelof has expressed interest in Star Wars as a fan, but not as a creative force. You almost felt like it was something he was afraid to attack. Which suggests, if he’s writing a screenplay now, it’s something he’s passionate about, and it’s exciting.
