Daniel Radcliffe found playing ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic to be a ‘liberating’ experience.
The 33-year-old actor will star as a singer in the new biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, but Daniel feels no particular pressure for the role.
Daniel, who is best known for playing Harry Potter in the money-making film series, said on the Backstage podcast, “It’s pretty liberating to us about how different the people we play are from real people.” there was something special.
“If I was walking in Offset and it was a biopic of Serious Al, I would look at Al every time and be like, ‘Oh, is he happy with that? It’s like, “Are you okay with that moment you recreated?”
“But when I walk across the table with a machine gun, it definitely gives you a lot of license.
“I would be happy if someone played me as a lunatic.”
Daniel recalls that there was a “very festive” atmosphere on set.
He explains:
“People came in and immediately realized, ‘Oh, we do two takes, maybe three takes of everything.
“The atmosphere on set was just… always very festive. No one on set was indifferent to Al’s work.”
