PEORIA, Illinois (25 NEWS NOW) – The FBI Springfield office has confirmed to 25News that one person is in custody in connection with an arson at Peoria’s Planned Parenthood Health Center earlier this month.
A fire broke out in our Knoxville office late on January 15th. Firefighters and paramedics responded around 12:15 am and found flames and smoke coming out of the front window. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters searched the building, but no one was inside, but the firefighter was taken to a hospital, where his injuries were not life-threatening. Total damage is estimated at approximately $150,000.
Planned Parenthood representatives add that they are actively working to reschedule patients to their chosen medical center or telemedicine visit. They also provide transportation assistance for those who need it.The nearest health center is in Bloomington.
In a statement to 25News, the FBI Springfield office said it will file a complaint Wednesday and formally arrest an unnamed man on federal charges. The name of the subject currently in custody has not been released.
