Eau Claire (WQOW) – People had a chance to hear from two candidates running for sheriff of Eau Claire County on Wednesday.
Democratic candidate Dave Riewestahl and Republican candidate Don Henning spoke at Wednesday night’s community forum at Chippewa Valley Technical College.
Hosted by the CVTC Criminal Justice Club, the forum marks the first time in 26 years that Eau Claire County has elected a new sheriff.
Candidates introduced themselves and shared their vision for the future, followed by a question and answer session moderated by the club.
“My adult life has been spent serving the community here in Eau Claire County as a volunteer firefighter, medical first responder, or law enforcement responder. Or I’ve held various leadership roles in my professional field,” Henning said.
Henning also said he has overwhelming support from cops, legislators and law enforcement across the county.
Opponent Lievestaar, meanwhile, explained his goals if he wins.
“My goals include hiring and retaining the best employees, and externally, I want to reengage with the community after COVID,” said Riewestahl.
Riewestahl also said he looks forward to contributing his skills, education and training to the community.
Riewestahl is now captain of the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office and Henning is now a detective in the same office.
These candidates will be voted on this Tuesday.
