True to Savannah, the Ghost Pirates’ 36 home games are as much a community party as a sporting event.
Savannah’s new minor league hockey expansion franchise will make its home debut at 7 p.m. Saturday at Enmarket Arena. The openers have sold out and the festivities will begin well before game time, said Ghost Pirates president Bob Oulabro.
“From the moment someone gets out of the car in the parking lot and walks into the square in front, you have to entertain them, even before the game starts. I have to see,” he said.
Whether it’s Saturday’s opener or the other 35 games scheduled for this season, here are five ways to make the most of your game day experience at Enmarket Arena.
Ghost Pirates: The Beginning of Ghosts
The Savannah Ghost Pirates, a minor league hockey team, will play their first home game on Saturday at 7pm before a sold-out crowd at Enmarket Arena. In the days leading up to its debut, Savannah’s Morning His News has published a series of articles previewing the first season.

watch out for davy
The brave Ghosts Pirates mascots are everywhere. On ice, stands, and lines of tacos and chicken fingers. You can also expect plenty of strutting and gymnastic-style tumbling from this pirate ghost whose name was chosen from among her 3,000 nominations collected through social media channels.
Promotions and Theme Nights
Every Ghost Pirate home game is a themed event, in honor of military service members and cancer survivors. A celebration of Marvel, Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. characters. And, in keeping with our Savannah tradition, we’ll be running a discounted beer promotion every Thursday.
pre-match party in the square
The fun starts hours before the match starts at Enmarket Arena. Bands, carnival-style games, and other festivities are staged in the plaza outside the main entrance before every home game. Pre-game entertainment continues inside, with Ghost Pirates officials encouraging fans to take their seats well in advance of the opening showdown.
You don’t need a “glass seat” to see the Ghost Pirates players up close. The Enmarket Arena was designed so that fans in the ground floor lounge could see the team walking from his locker room to the ice through windows lining the corridor. In addition, youth sports team participants form a “high-five tunnel” to welcome players during pre-match introductions.
The coolest Zambonis in ECHL
Few things lure hockey fans like the Zamboni, the ice resurfacing machine that crisscrosses the rink between periods. Ghost of his Pirates boasts two of his Zambonis, one of the best in all of hockey. These are ECHL’s only electric EVs. Fun fact: The Zamboni has a top speed of 9 miles per hour, but it travels at half that speed to clean and condition the ice.
