Hayes County has plenty of great restaurants, from food trucks to fine dining. It’s all here.
Head to Wimberley on Ranch Road 12, a few miles north of downtown, and you’ll find yourself at one of my favorite restaurants, Jobell Café & Bistro.
Owners David and Jessenia Bober describe the menu as ‘refined simplicity’.
Together, they have worked hard to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience at Wimberley.
“From the expertly refurbished and intimate main dining room and intimate outdoor deck to the delicious rustic French bistro fare and curated wine list, the highest expectations of those looking for fine dining experience. “Texas Hill Country Charm,” their website reads.
On the day of our visit, I knew I had a busy afternoon ahead, so opted for a lighter option. The sandwich was mediocre. Avocado and tomato grilled cheese sandwiched between sourdough bread. A fusion of flavors and textures made for the perfect sandwich. Oh, the cheddar and swiss cheese were great. The sandwich was delicious, but the soup really stole the show. I should have saved it for later. The soup was an out-of-this-world southwestern corn soup. The pairing was $12 for him, so I thought I had won a good amount.
My dining companion has a bit of an appetite and decided to opt for the Wagyu Burger. Wagyu beef is special, said to have a higher proportion of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and more monounsaturated fat than other beefs. This “soft fat” has a low melting point, which not only creates a great texture, but also retains most of the flavor.
The 6 oz patty was cooked to perfection and served with jalapeno bacon jam, goat cheese, pickles, spring mix and poppy seed kaiser rolls. I managed to sneak in a few bites and it did not disappoint. With the addition of fries, I thought it was a good deal for $19.
Suffice it to say we’ll probably be back to try one more delicious lunch entree: Beer Braised Pork Tenderloin, Mango BBQ Sauce, Apple Slaw, Braised Pork Sliders with Brioche Slider Buns $15. Or Cranberry Chicken Salad with lettuce and tomato on toasted croissant $14.
Be sure to try our special dinner menu. On my last visit, I had the Steak Diane. The steak was served with Rosewood Ranch Texas Wagyu Bavette Cognac Shallot Cream Sauce, French Fries and Honey Glazed Carrots $32.
i love this place!
