GRANDY CENTER (KWWL) — The Spartans at Grundy Center used a balanced offense and stifling defense to defeat the Columbus Community at Grundy Center 41-7. The Spartans opened the scoring with a 62-yard drive capped off by Justin Knaak’s 4-yard TD run. The Spartan defense played the Wildcats’ lockdown defense all night. After stopping on the Wildcats’ first offensive possession, the Grundy center drove the ball his 52 yards. His 20-yard TD run on GC QB Colin Gordon makes the score 13-0 after a blocked PAT. After a Wildcat fumble, the Spartans capitalized on the next play. Gordon connected with Ben He Wegman on his TD pass for 28 yards before the first quarter ended, making it 20–0. The Spartans put Cruz in his control from there as they advance to the third round of the Class A playoffs.
