Wilmington, NC (WECT) – Traveling again. I can’t wait to travel again. My favorite life is eating hot dogs with my friends. I can’t wait to travel again. Wait a minute, aren’t those lyrics from Willie Nelson’s famous hit? Anyway, “Hot Dog Road Trip” is going on a trip again, but it’s not cheap by any means because gas is expensive.
Still, I am encouraged by the outpouring of support, tips, and suggestions from all of you. Over the past few months, he’s heard from more than 50 people about where the best hot dogs are located around southeastern North Carolina. If you haven’t read it yet, you can read “Part 1” here. It’s safe to say he’s speechless at everyone’s devotion to the patron saint of the hood (St He Frankfurter).

You may be wondering why we are doing “Part 2” now. One of the main reasons was the season of fairs and festivals. To me, it always speaks of eating hot dogs. Fried Oreos and Donuts Some people eat him with cheeseburgers, but I don’t. So it’s the perfect time to revisit our most popular food reviews of all time.
To cover some boundaries, we only order hot dogs with mustard, onions, chili and coleslaw…that’s it. We also rate the dogs on a scale of 1 to 5, from the softness of the bread to the flavor of the hot dog to the creaminess of the coleslaw.
Also, this hot dog road trip does not include chain restaurants. Sams, a chain that started in my home state of West Virginia). These are just a handful of places I’ve been to, and there are countless others I promise to go to.
With that said, I was late for Carolina Beach recently on Tuesday and arrived too late. Island Burger and Bites When Naughty Dog Closed. We also ordered takeout Ruth’s Kitchen (where I got a lot of emails) But when I got back to the office and opened my bag, my standard order of chili, onion, mustard and coleslaw turned into a plain hot dog with a cup of ketchup. It didn’t pass. But we’ll be back!
All right, the tank is full. The route is planned. Buckaroo up and hit the road.

Brodie Dogs Brew House
Leland’s favorite place for craft hot dogs, broddy dog You can choose from different breeds of dogs at affordable prices. I wanted to try the bacon wrapped dog, but I have to stick to my guns. Right off the bat, the bun is super soft and sturdy, providing a nice base for the dog and all of its toppings. However, I thought the coleslaw was a little more spicy and the chili a little more spicy. Putting it all together gives him a respectable 3/5 score with a good balance of strengths and weaknesses.

Island Delights Surf City
A favorite of generations of travelers visiting Surf City, island delight It offers that classic diner vibe (complete with old fashioned vending machines and jukebox). Along with that nostalgia comes all the classic his menu options such as burgers, fries, milkshakes and even ice cream bars. Buried among the extensive menu are his $3 hot dogs, which are very affordable. Of course, we loaded up on prerequisite toppings and unleashed this dog. The toasted split top bread was a good choice and everything from the chili to the coleslaw went well with the dogs. But nothing really stood out and made me go, “Wow, that’s cool.” But don’t expect this hot dog to taste good. Let’s say 3/5.

hot digity dogs
Another place I stopped by when I participated in the Ocean Fest held in Surf City, hot digity dogs Great location in the heart of Surf City. Located across from the pier, this island flagship has an almost endless menu of specialty hot dogs. How about “Surfer Dog” with melted cheese, bacon and mustard or “New Yorker Dog” with Spicy His Mustard and Red Onion His Sauce? My toppings list falls under the “beach dog” moniker, and each piece centers around Sublette’s hot dog (a favorite with many fans, especially in the Northeast). That being said, my bread was huge and every bite was more bread than anything else. The toppings were ok, but the onions were a little too long and not to my liking.I’m sure hot digity dogs It often lives up to its “voted #1 hot dog” claim, but on this visit, it wasn’t the hottest dog. Middle of the pack 2.5/5.
pops diner
There’s something about visiting the Carolina Coast and swinging at an old-fashioned diner. People have packed this spot on Carolina Beach for years. The interior is straight ’50s, with faux chrome curved ceilings and red and white booths. A very run-of-the-mill product, but everything else really “pops out” (I had to). The dog itself is meaty and savory, the chili gets attention, the onions are diced perfectly, the mustard ratio is good, and there is finely diced, semi-creamy coleslaw. If you put these buns on the grill with a little bit of butter, this bread will be on top. For a town with several hot dog options, this place is worth a visit.3.5/5.

original salt works
Of the dozens of emails I’ve received, Wilmington’s original salt works It was a name that kept coming up. His TOSW, located in an old diner-like building near Wrightsville Beach, is a favorite with locals and tourists alike. I’ve seen big, juicy burgers with fries and onion rings thrown out of the kitchen…but I’m here for the hot dogs. And I must say, what a dog it is. The hot dog becomes richer as it is boiled, and the manju is moist and soft. Chili peppers are finely ground and have a fragrant, spicy and meaty taste. The onions and mustard were unobtrusive and the coleslaw was a little chunky for my taste, but the tangy dressing was just right. All in all this is one of the best dogs I’ve had here he is a 4/5 real “top dog”. (Note: cash only restaurant)
