We tried the pecan-filled version of Date Snickers above to see what all the fuss was about. Cold and crunchy, dates provide a ‘pull’ eerily similar to caramel or nougat. Its sweet, neutral flavor draws out the rest of the ingredients. that is The flavor is also quite a point, as it shines with a real Snickers bar.
I have a recipe below, but I know I don’t have exact measurements. Anyone can easily add eyeballs as the material progresses. (It’s also flexible if you want to use a different kind of nut or nut butter in the center, or experiment with different types of coatings and add-ins, like caramel sauce or white chocolate.)
material
- dried dates (Medjool is the most popular)
- half a pecan
- peanut butter, chunky or creamy
- melted milk chocolate
- flaky salt (optional)
step 1: Slice the dates lengthwise and remove the seeds if they are not already inside.
Step 2: Place a pecan half in the center of each date. Spread a little peanut butter over the pecans and close the dates.
Step 3: Paste each date with a fork or toothpick. Dip in melted chocolate until evenly coated. Place on parchment or nonstick foil-lined baking sheet, plate, or container. Repeat with remaining dates.
Step 4: Sprinkle flaky salt over wet chocolate if desired. Refrigerate or freeze the dates until the chocolate hardens.
