A video posted on social media shows the horrifying moment when an IndiGo aircraft’s engine caught fire while it was about to take off from Delhi airport, India.
As the grounded airliner sped along the runway, orange flames and sparks flew off the sides.
Passengers also heard loud noises, AFP said.
Priyanka Kumar, one of the passengers heading to Bengaluru, posted a clip of the incident on Twitter showing the fire extinguished in an instant.

“Indigo 6E 2131 Delhi runway horror experience!” she tweeted. “This was supposed to be a takeoff video, but it actually happened.”

In response to a Twitter post, the airline said it regretted the inconvenience caused to its passengers.
“An engine stall occurred during the takeoff run. The takeoff was aborted and the aircraft returned safely to the bay,” IndiGo wrote. “We understand that all passengers are being accommodated on alternate aircraft.”

FOX Business’ requests for comment from IndiGo and the Delhi Police were not immediately returned.
Deli police said all 184 people on the Airbus A-320 aircraft were safe and the incident occurred around 9:45 pm local time, according to NDTV.

Passengers reportedly disembarked after 11:00 p.m., and pilots used fire extinguishers in the engines, according to a preliminary report from the aviation regulator’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation.

AFP said a full investigation was carried out and the replacement flight took off at 12:16 am on Saturday.
