A Russian media star who dramatically fled Russia last week said he was “probably in big trouble” over the weekend.
Ksenia Sobchak, who is rumored to be President Vladimir Putin’s daughter of God, posted on Telegram on Saturday that she has been cut off from friends and family since fleeing to Lithuania on October 25.
Sobchak sneaked out of Russia after Kirill Sukhanov, the commercial director of her media company Ostrozhno.Media, was arrested on extortion charges.
According to state media TASS, citing Russian police, Sobchak bought a plane ticket to Dubai, but instead crossed overland to Lithuania via Belarus to confuse the authorities.
After she left, police raided her Moscow home and she was named as a suspect in the incident, TASS reported.
“My thoughts are with the family I am separated from,” Sobchak wrote in a Telegram post on Saturday.
Later in the post she added: She didn’t specify what she was referring to.
Russian police have named Sobchak as a suspect in extortion of millions of rubles from the head of defense conglomerate Rostec by commercial director Skakhanov and another media mogul, former Russian Tatler editor Ariane Romanovsky. was doing.
But as of Friday, police have canceled this status and are now considering her a witness, TASS reports. The outlet reported this on Saturday in an article published after Sobchak posted it.
Sobchak did not respond to Insider’s request for comment. A representative who named her Instagram profile only as “Lena” said she had not been in contact with Sobchak at the time of publication and had not confirmed her whereabouts as of Monday. Two of her representatives declined to comment. All answered Russian phone numbers.
On Friday, Lithuanian intelligence confirmed that Sobchak was in the country and said she had the right to stay for 90 days.
Sobchak is one of Russia’s biggest media stars and has family ties to Putin. There have been rumors for years that she is the president’s daughter of God.
She is the daughter of Anatoly Sobchak, the former mayor of St. Petersburg who hired Putin as vice president and helped him rise to power. According to Politico, Putin attended the christening of his Ksenia Sobchak.
Sobchak’s glamorous lifestyle and reality TV career have earned her the nickname ‘Russia’s Paris Hilton’. When her media career matured and she ran as a presidential candidate in 2018, she tried to ditch this image.
The challenge was viewed with skepticism by pro-democracy activists, but Sobchak has backed several liberal positions, including his 2014 criticism of the annexation of Crimea, as reported by Politico.
Translated by The Washington Post, after Skanov’s arrest, she wrote:
In her latest post mentioning her situation, as reported by Russian newspaper Kommersant, Sobchak blamed the backlash she received in the Russian media.
Citing many instances of what she described as “bullying” and fake news, she wrote bitterly about the report, stating: !
“And I hate you for being so shallow and petty.
