netflix renewed the witcher for a fourth season with a twist.
Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill in the epic drama series, taking the reins as Geralt de Riv.
The move comes ahead of the show’s third season, which will return in the summer of 2023. A four-part prequel series, The Witcher: Origin of Blood launch on December 25, 2022.
Cavill, who revealed earlier this week that he would return as Superman, played the sinister Geralt of Rivia, the scourge of supernatural beasts in the drama series’ first three seasons.
the witcher is a story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of the Continent, where humans, elves, wizards, gnomes and monsters fight to survive and prosper, and where good and evil are not easily identified .
It also stars Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan.
Hemsworth, who is best known for starring in the hunger games franchise, recently starred in the drama Quibi most dangerous game. He will take over as Geralt of Rivia in what is believed to be a wealthy affair.
According to sources, Cavill had entered into a short-term agreement to the witcher and felt it was time to move on after three seasons on the show, which is filming overseas and has a demanding production schedule. He already has film and television projects lined up, including the Just announced The unkind War Department, in addition to the return of Superman. Cavill’s Witcher the co-stars renegotiated their contracts ahead of Season 4, sources said.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is showrunner and executive producer. Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko are also executive producers.
Cavill said: “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventure, and alas, I will lay down my medallion and swords for Season 4. In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take on the mantle of the white wolf. As with literary greats, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent playing Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s perspective on this most fascinating and nuanced man. Hemsworth added: “As Witcher fan, I am thrilled with the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m really excited to step into the world of The Witcher.
