Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has called the latest twist in British policy a “total mess” after British First Minister Liz Truss announced she was stepping down on Thursday.
“This is beyond hyperbole – and parody,” she wrote in a tweet. “The reality is that ordinary people are paying the price.”
Sturgeon, Scotland’s top politician and leader of the left-wing Scottish National Party, said a general election in Britain was now a “democratic imperative” in her criticism of the Conservative Party. Truss took office after being elected by members of the Conservative Party to replace Boris Johnson, rather than standing in the general election herself.
