“The McLaren Solus GT is the realization of McLaren’s radical concept vehicle originally created for the world of virtual racing. It exemplifies our pioneering spirit by using our expertise to make it happen.”
McLaren Automotive Chief Executive Michael Leiters said:
Striking exterior design, so true to its virtual inspiration, McLaren’s ‘everything for a reason’ honed by proven aerodynamic principles and additional CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and wind tunnel aerodynamic studies based on the design spirit.
The list of distinctive exterior features is long, and one of the most impressive is the sliding canopy above the single central seat. The wheels are covered with aerodynamic pods and positioned by suspension arms. A large front splitter feeds air into the ground effect tunnel before going out of the car through a full he diffuser. A motorsport-inspired intake above the cockpit, integrated into the design of the roll hoop cover, channels cool air into the engine and also provides an attractive induction sound. The race car design also inspired the sidepods that house the Solus GT’s radiators.
