Upstate’s survival of heart surgery hinges on a merger with Crouse, the hospital says. SUNY Upstate University Hospital says it may be forced to cancel heart surgeries and other cardiac services because it isn’t doing enough To meet federal requirements. Losing heart surgery could jeopardize his Upstate status as the only Level 1 trauma center in central New York that provides round-the-clock care to seriously injured people in 14 counties.

Meet Micron’s first hires in downtown New York. Syracuse University Vice Chancellor Michael Haney recently visited Micron executives and wanted to impress with stories of talented veterans attending college. He spoke of his 30-year-old student, Savion Pollard, who worked as an engineer on a Navy nuclear submarine and is currently studying electrical engineering. Pollard is now Micron’s first to employ his complex, a giant computer that will be built on Clay.
Syracuse has been voted one of America’s best places to live. US News & World Report has released its ranking of the best places to live in the United States for 2022-2023. Her four cities in upstate New York, including Syracuse, scored highly for value, desirability, jobs and quality of life, making the top 50. See where Salt City is ranked.
Absentee ballot counting begins in Onondaga County. The tedious tradition of scrutinizing and challenging absentee ballots after a close election has ended in New York, at least this year. The Onondaga County Election Commission joined other commissions statewide on Friday to process absentee ballots ahead of the Nov. 8 general election. A new state law allows election commissioners to open and scan early-arriving ballots and announce the results on Election Day.
CNY judge gets rich with scratch-off lottery: One day last month, when Salina Town Justice Andrew Piraino stopped by a store in Liverpool to buy a daily newspaper, his eyes were caught by a bright red lottery scratch ticket on display. The game was triple red 777 and the ticket was $10 for him, so Piraino he bought one. It has proven to be a good investment.

Tickets for Shania Twain go on sale this week. Let’s Go Girls: Shania Twain is coming to Syracuse for the first time in almost 25 years. The country superstar announced Friday her 2023 tour dates, including a concert at her St. Joseph’s Health her amphitheater in Lakeview in July. Tickets go on sale this week.

Unlucky Day: Irish Hand Orange 2 Lost in a Row: The tone was set early on Saturday when Notre Dame safety Brandon Joseph picked off Garrett Schrader on the opening snap of the game and returned the ball 29 yards for a touchdown. They were stuck, losing to Fighting Irish 41-24 in a sold-out JMA Wireless dome.
