The University of Pittsburgh in Bradford is one of the nation’s most environmentally responsible universities, according to The Princeton Review.
The educational services company featured Pitt-Bradford in an online resource, The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges: 2023 Edition, published earlier this week.
The Princeton Review selected the schools in the guide based on a survey of 713 college administrators for the 2021-22 academic year and a survey of students attending college. The company’s editors analyzed over 25 survey data points to select the 455 schools selected for the guide.
“Being environmentally responsible is very important to Pitt Bradford,” said Rick Esch, president of Pitt Bradford. Over the years, we have made progress and look forward to launching additional initiatives to further strengthen the sustainability of our campuses. ”
The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges school profile reports on the university’s use of renewable energy, recycling and conservation programs, the availability of environmental research in educational institutions, and career guidance for green jobs.
In a profile of Pitt Bradford, the Princeton Review mentions the university’s sustainability committee, the percentage of food costs spent on local organic food (51%), transit passes, and safe indoor storage for bikes. I’m here.
Part of Pitt-Bradford’s 481-acre campus is a wooded hillside used for hiking, mountain biking, student labs, and student study in the Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Biology programs.
Pitt-Bradford’s academic program, a new program in energy engineering technologies housed in the new George B. Duke Engineering and Information Technologies Building opening in January, will also focus on energy efficiency. The new building will also be home to existing programs in Energy Science and Technology and is constructed according to the Silver Level certification standards of the American Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Once certified, the Duke Building will join Livingston Alexander House as his LEED-certified building, his second on campus and his third in McKean County.
As part of meeting LEED standards, the university will install a new solar array on top of the Duke Building next week. This will be the largest solar array in the University of Pittsburgh system, including his four other campuses. The Met-Ed/Penelec Sustainable Energy Fund awarded the university a $230,000 grant to purchase the array. The array will generate approximately 113,000 kWh per year and includes a building dashboard that supports community education and engagement.
The Princeton Review has published the Green College Guide annually since 2010. Pitt Bradford was also included.
