El Paso, TX – This year’s event brought families and nurses together in full Halloween magic.
Providence Children’s Hospital held an annual NICU reunion to welcome families and babies staying in the NICU.
NICU graduates return to reunite with former nurses and health care providers who cared for them while in the NICU.
Generally, NICU patients are expected to stay in the hospital for a few days, with some patients staying for more than a year, workers said.
NICU coordinator Kristol Veach said the event always takes place around Halloween and it’s a special joy to see the children come back dressed in costumes.
While the children enjoyed trick-or-treating, some community organizations came to support the fun events, offering fun food and games to make the day special.
“It’s great because we’re so grateful for everything we’ve done for them while they’re in the NICU. And it’s great to see how well the nurses are doing at home. It’s really cool to be able to see what they’re doing,” Veach said. .
