This latest extravaganza was part of the Websummit conference, which took the form of a competition-based incentive/recruitment campaign to “Hack the Galaxy” (8,000 people won tickets).
The lighting and set designer since the event’s inception has been LEAD, a visual design practice run by Omer Israeli and Dor Aichner, contracted by production company OTD Global. As Head Lighting Designer, Omer Israeli once again specified over 100 of these fixtures to meet the design requirements. 54 hybrid strobes and 48 award-winning Bar 20 battens. All lights, LED screens and lighting fixtures were supplied and assembled by Hipnose, a Lisbon-based AV vendor.
All fixtures ran in enhanced (full pixel) mode, allowing designers to achieve different looks throughout the night.
Besides Omer, who programmed and ran the GLP light show for Israeli DJs, Skazi and Itay Galo from a series of grandMA desks, David Guetta’s LD, James Betts Gray and Armin Van Buuren’s (Fabian Fisniku). I enjoyed this experience. .
In total, the lighting occupied 54 DMX universes, and another 24 universes were run via the MADRIX control system.
Asked about the performance of the GLP fixture, Omer Israeli is clear. “We feel the JDC1 is pretty much the industry standard when it comes to quality hybrid strobes,” he says. “We love the power, the color system, and the pixels that add extra punch. In fact, we are looking to source his JDC. [for shows] wherever you can.
“The X4 Bar 10/Bar 20 series are also great. I like the soft light curtain effect. Add pixels and you can do a lot of really cool things.”
Other personnel who were key to the success of the event included LEAD’s Associate LD Daniel Drix, who was responsible for programming and previs (using THE Depence2 platform). His technical director of the event was his Avishay Giladie and his stage manager was Itay Harpaz.
