As usual, we have a defensive battle on our hands on Thursday night. Within 30 minutes, the Buccaneers lead the Ravens 10-3 behind a defense that made two big stands in the red zone in the first half. The Buccaneers also received a decent first half from Tom Brady, whose 44-yard completion to Chris Godwin set up Leonard Fournette’s go-ahead touchdown midway through the first quarter.
Tampa Bay’s defense held off the Ravens on a field goal after a muffled punt gave Baltimore the ball at the Buccaneers 6-yard line early in the first quarter. The Buccaneers defense offered a second red zone after forcing an incomplete pass from Lamar Jackson on a fourth play late in the first half. The Ravens then found themselves empty on their last halftime scoring chance when Justin Tucker’s 61-yard attempt was blocked.
As has often been the case over the past 20+ years, Brady was the best offensive player on the court in the first half. He threw for 142 yards while managing to pass the ball to wide Godwin and Mike Evans. Brady made unwanted history in the first half, however, as he passed Ben Roethlisberger as the most sacked quarterback in league history.
