ROCKFORD (WREX) — Just two weeks before the midterm elections, 13WREX caught up with Illinois Democratic Senator Dick Durbin at a local event Thursday morning.
When asked if it was President Trump’s testimony on the Jan. 6 riots, Senator Durbin was very candid in his response to 13WREX.
“While we hope that testimony will actually take place, it is still doubtful whether he will appear voluntarily,” Durbin said.
“He is a former president but is now a U.S. citizen subject to U.S. law. I’m here.”
13WREX asked Senator Durbin about his concerns about the backlash in the midterm elections after the Jan. 6 riots.
“Of course, the midterm elections, which are two weeks away, will make a big difference in the control of Congress, so important decisions will have to be made in Congress,” Durbin said.
“Find other ways to help families deal with inflation, for example, regarding the future of Social Security and health insurance.”
Durbin said the bottom line is to get out and vote.
“We want big crowds,” Durbin said.
“I hope that people across America will find the courage to run for office and vote. It’s been a loss of life,” said Durbin.
The midterm elections are Tuesday, November 8th.
