ALPENA — Thunder Bay Arts proudly welcomes Brian Schhorn as Featured Artist for November and December 2022.
The TBA will host a reception in his honor on Friday, November 11, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at the TBA Gallery. The event is free and open to the public. The TBA Gallery is located at his 127 W. Chisholm St. in downtown Alpena. Schhorn’s work and that of his 21 additional local artists can be found within the TBA gallery.
Schorn is a multidisciplinary artist working at the Studio Rubedo workshop in Alpena. He grew up on the pristine shoreline of Lake Huron, Eagle. . His interest in nature, science and photography led him to study art in various media.
His college education includes a BFA in Fine Art Photography and an MFA degree in Fine Art Photography, Graphic Design, Creative Writing and Electronic Music. Since the 1990s, he has worked at institutions such as Alpena Community College, Interlochen Arts Academy, University of Michigan, Brown University, and Eastern University of Michigan, where he has worked in visual arts, photography, comparative art, digital art, sound art, graphic design, and creative writing. Arts Mid He was awarded an Arts His Education His Grant in New York through Hudson, where he worked with third through his fifth graders to develop his installations of environmentally conscious art. He is a frequent contributor to art exhibitions and publications as a curator, jury and designer. Most recently, Sean curated “Modern Art of Besser” from his permanent collection at the Besser Art Museum in Northeast Michigan.
Sean’s visual art has been widely exhibited and published nationwide since the early 1980s. Recent solo exhibitions include “Comstock Wabi-Sabi” in Nevada, “Lost and Found” in New York and “Magnum Opus: A 25 Year Retrospective” at Besser Museum in Alpena. Other recent group exhibitions include ArtPrize, Practice, Rhythm and Ritual: Meditative Minimalism, and Tinker, Tailor, Welder, Weaver: The Art of Assemblage at Crooked Tree Arts Center, Michigan. there is. He participates in artist residencies around the country, including the Iowa Lakeside Lab in Milford, Iowa. Resident Artist Program in Silver City, Nevada. His I-Park Artists Enclave in Connecticut. Ox-Bow Artist Residency in Michigan. Work from a residency in Nevada now tours the state in various business and educational locations.
Schorn’s art is affiliated with or represented by Tricera, Art Curator Japan, Michigan Artists Gallery, Crooked Tree Arts Center, and Rogue Nevada. His work is in numerous private and public collections at the Seligman Center for Surrealism, the Pacific Film Archive at the Berkeley Art Museum, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Besser Art Museum, and the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science.
