CLINTON, Illinois (WAND) – A man has been arrested after being accused of firing a gun into the air in Clinton.
Clinton police and DeWitt County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the East Julia and North Charles Street area early Thursday morning to investigate multiple reports of gunshots.
Witnesses offered an explanation after seeing the suspect point his handgun into the air and fire multiple times.
As a result, a 24-year-old Clinton man was arrested.
Police recovered a 0.9mm semi-automatic pistol, used and live ammunition cases, and additional live ammunition.
The suspect was taken to DeWitt County Jail and charged with aggravated unlawful weapon use, felony firearm possession, reckless firing of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and resisting arrest. Additional charges are under consideration.
“We also make it a priority to keep our communities free of violent criminals and illegally owned guns,” said Chief Ben Lowers. It’s our number one goal every day.”
No other information has been released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
