Students from Canton’s Creekview High School joined Jerry Carnes’ TODAY show on 11Alive to feature their school this week in ‘Friday Morning Lights’.
CANTON, GA — Families watching 11Alive on Friday morning saw a familiar face from Canton.
Creekview High School students were featured on the Today Show as part of the “Friday Morning Light” segment.
11Alive’s Jerry Kearns gathered on the field with high school football players, cheerleaders, bands and more to cheer for Friday night’s game. The team is currently playing the number one high school in the region, Roma High School.
The team gets a lot of community support. Creekview hosted its homecoming game a few weeks ago, and football coach Trevor Williams said the streets were lined with families.
“Football is huge in Georgia,” he said. “And this community in particular receives support from primary schools and local neighborhoods.”
Williams emphasized that fan support will energize the team and breathe new life into the town.
“I can’t believe it,” said the coach. “I can’t say enough about how specifically it means to this community.”
The Creekview High School Grizzlies have a playoff chance, but it will be tough competition. They have won four of the nine games they have played this season.
“Oh, we’re so lucky,” Williams said. “It starts with our administration, our faculty here. Our student section is phenomenal. Our production crew handles our booths and scoreboards. We are incredibly lucky. We show up here at Creek every Friday night.”
