iOS 16.1 Released: Everything Is New
It’s been a busy week for Apple when it comes to software, as the company released iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, and announced a long list of new features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
A roundup of all the new features in iOS 16.1. This includes support for Live Activities in third-party apps (see list of apps), iCloud Shared Photo Library, support for Matter accessories, and more.

Apple releases iPadOS 16 with Stage Manager and more
After more than four months of beta testing, iPadOS 16 finally became generally available this week. One of the main new features in the update is Stage Manager. This allows you to use multiple apps in overlapping windows for better multitasking.
Unfortunately, Stage Manager has been criticized as a “poorly tested” feature with “a confusing constellation of missing features, bugs, and confusing interactions.”

Apple rumored to release larger 16-inch iPad next year
According to this week’s report, Apple is working on a larger 16-inch iPad that it plans to release in the fourth quarter of 2023. This will surpass the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, making it the largest iPad model ever.
The extra-large iPad will have the same screen size as the 16-inch MacBook Pro, giving users a larger canvas to work with. It has long been rumored that Apple is also planning a 14-inch iPad Pro.
Apple admits EU compliance and iPhones should switch to USB-C
In an interview with tech reporter Joanna Stern this week, Apple’s head of marketing Greg Joswiak said EU legislation that would require devices like the iPhone to adopt USB-C as a common charging port from 2024 would: It acknowledged that the company “must comply.”
Apple’s chief of software engineering, Craig Federighi, also joined the discussion, touching on the lack of iMessage on Android and many other topics.
Everything New in iOS 16.2 Beta: Freeform Apps and More
