An art project by Eliana Cuevas, a senior at Simon Sanchez High School.
Eliana Cuevas
All week I’ve been working on a new project assigned to my class by my art teacher. At first I made a base plaster mask, which was already a big challenge for me.
I messed up the sides and had to redo the whole process because it was too flimsy to work with.
I was very happy when they came out of the mold one by one. After making the base, I worked on building the outline using clay, plaster, and poster board.
The theme I chose is ‘memory’ and I plan to create a mask on top of the base and pull it apart by hand.
I want to deliver the clichéd message that even after everything I’ve been through in my life, it continues to shape who I am today.

Our Lady of Guam Academy senior Gemelin Borcione went to see Super American Circus at the Pacific Islands Club.

Last Saturday me and my family went to see Super American Circus at the Pacific Islands Club. It was perfect timing because I was staying at a hotel with my friend the day before.
However, when I arrived at the venue with my family, I realized that I had made a mistake and arrived 1 hour and 30 minutes earlier than the start time. So you can imagine how ridiculous it would be for us to be fully clothed in the middle of a water park full of people still wearing bikinis and tank shorts.
To kill time, I went to a new sweets shop “Ice Una Guam” that sells Taiwanese shaved ice. I only ordered one shaved ice as I had limited time. It was called Mango Madness and was pretty good. After we finished eating, we went back to see the show.
It was like watching The Greatest Showman live action, to say the least. It’s ironic given how they played the movie’s song in the opening. Dazzling lights and evocative music set the mood for each performance.
My personal favorite part of the show was when someone put the bike in the air on wires. I was able to. What made the performance even more interesting to me was the fact that my sister was acting hysterical.
Overall, the show was really fun to watch and I hope they come back to Guam again.

St. John’s School senior Casey Hsu is chasing a personal best in his final cross-country season.

Our cross country season officially started this week! However, this year’s schedule is a little different. Before the all-island competition, our school has only four competitions, but last year we had at least 10 competitions. There aren’t many competitions this year, so the season will go by quickly.
For the last few weeks, I had a shin splint and was in a lot of pain every time I ran. I had the same injury last year, so I’m used to running with pain.
Hope it gets better as the season progresses. This will be my last cross-country season as a senior, so I would like to make the most of the remaining time with the team and aim for a personal record.

I’ve been wearing a Jack-O-Lantern hat since I was 3 years old. Her mother bought it for me so she could wear it to Pre-K for the month of October.I loved that hat. Celebrate your favorite months and holidays with a light-up pumpkin necklace and orange light-up Skechers.
I can’t stand the illuminated Skechers anymore, but I still wear my jack-o’-lantern hat every October. It brings back all the good memories I had growing up, like trick-or-treating with my dad and going costume shopping with my mom the night before Halloween.
While I always carry a hat and a smiling pumpkin on my head, I will always be grateful for all the experiences I have had and will have.

The 2023 St. John’s School Senior Class will have a car wash in the school parking lot on November 10th from 8am to 4pm. The seniors have just received these super cute tickets designed by people in our class. We strongly recommend that you either drive past and have your car washed.
