Decatur, Illinois (WAND) – Decatur residents took their hats and broomsticks out for Witch’s Night Out.
Local resident Lori Kronshagen said she loves coming out every year.
“I’ve always dressed up for Halloween. I love it, Autumn and my granddaughter, I wanted to do something with her.
This annual event in downtown Decatur offers the perfect combination of dressing up and shopping.
Decatur resident Hannah Cook said, “Definitely all goodies. Everything is great and goes above and beyond for Witch’s Night Out.”
The heart behind witch-themed nights are local businesses like Del’s Popcorn Shop. Alexis Fleckenstein, who works at Dell’s Popcorn Shop, said small businesses rely on nights like this.
“Of course we get a lot of sales and stuff, but overall it’s really fun. You get to wear costumes and the customers are really great. It’s a really fun night. It was a little rough, but mostly We have had to raise prices a few times, but everyone understands us very well and is really patient with us,” said Fleckenstein.
Locals said they understood the importance of showing support for these businesses, even during these difficult times.
“A lot of people are out and I think people realize the importance of supporting locals,” Kronshagen said.
“We all know what it feels like to be supported. It helps them put food on the table, it helps families and businesses, so it’s the least we can do.” I think that’s it.
Voter turnout was good, even though many residents felt inflation was pinching.
“So we came in last year, and last year was just a fraction of this. So we were shocked. It’s great to be able to move so little in stores,” Cook said.
Downtown Decatur Business hopes to see this level of support all year round.
